Is cause by a germ called mycobacterium tuberculosis. It can get into human through inhalation of the pathogen and attacks the lungs, and other part of the body, including the bones, joints and the brain.
It attached all age groups and both sexes. TB is spread through the air when the person with the disease cough or sneezes. A person inhaling air that contains tubercolosis germs may become infected . It also apread rapidly in over crowder areas. TB can also get into human through ingestion or consuming unpasteurized milk (bovine TB)
SIGNS AND SYMTOMS
The general sign and symptoms of tuberculosis inlude: Malaise, Weight loss, Fever, Night Sweats, Haemoptosis, emaciation, persistent cough, chest pain, swelling and pain of the affected areas of the bones and joins, stunted growth and failure to thrive in childrens. It can also cause crippling effecfs in the hips, knees or spine.
BCG VACCINE
This vaccine gives protection against tuberculosis. The vaccine comes in powder form with its accompanying diluent which is used to reconstitute the vaccine before administering it into human.The vaccine is wrap in foil or paper to protect it from light. After reconstituting the vaccine should be used within six hours after which it should be discarded.
B.C.G. vaccine and diluent should be kept at a temperature between 0c° and +8°c the fried B.C.G. vaccine can be stored at freezing point the letter B,C and G stand for bacillus of calmette and Guerin Bacillus is the shape of the bacterium while calmette and Gurrin are the names of the two medical scientist who developed the vaccine. B.C.G. vaccine is given at birth or as soon as possible after brith. It should not be given to children with clinical human immune virus (HIV)
The dose Is 0.05 ml in the upper left arm do not rub or apply anything to the injection site. When BCV vaccine is injection, a small raised lump appears at the injection site. Which usually disappears within 30 minutes. After a period of fourteen (14) days, a red sore develops which is 10mm in diameter. This sore remain for another 14 days and then heals. A small scar about 5mm across, occur and remain for life.
